McHenry Plaindealer Wednesday 5 December 1883: "Peter Smith, who keeps a Saloon and Boarding House in Lansing's Block, near the depot, died on Friday last after an illness of a little over three weeks, of typhoid fever. He was a man about 34 years of age and leaves a wife and three children to mourn his loss, his funeral was held at Johnsburg on Sunday." NOTE: It appears Peter may have been later reinterred at St Mary's Cemetery in McHenry, established in 1896.
