Katherine (Schmitt) Torrey has German Roots.

Descendant of Jacob Schmitt. Katherine is a paternal granddaughter of Jacob Schmitt, who was one of three founders of Johnsburg, McHenry County, Illinois in August 1841, along with Nicholas Adams and Nicholas Frett.

NOTES: "Barbara Torrey, in sending compiler excerpts from the diary of Kate Torrey, notes, "The last diary entries are from December 20, 1941 and June 9, 1942. Kate Torrey wrote: December 20, 1941 Leaving for Eugene Oregon, to see Pearl... (without new date) I got back 20th of March 1942...Orval is a ship-fitter in Portland. Army camp now they will move to Portland June 9, 1942 Marjorie and Lorraine left for Eugene Oregon, today at 2... Pearl lives in Eugene.

"May 2001, Barbara Torrey, a great-granddaughter of Roy Torrey's by his second marriage, wrote an e-mail message to Robert Spurgeon, who has included compiler's data on his web site. In her message, she informed Mr. Spurgeon that family reports via her father had been that Pearl was raised primarily by her grandmother, Kate Torrey [nee SCHMITT], Roy's mother. Pearl apparently never lived with her father after he remarried."
