Biography

Where do i begin? My daddy was my daddy, only daughter, were very close, and if i could have the marriage that my parents had i would be one very lucky lady. My dad Robert Davis (Davis is his mothers maiden name) , Bob as he was known by was born on 29 July 1924 in Buffalo, Erie, New York, to Joseph George Schmitt and wife Florence Gertrude (Davis) Schmitt.

My dad was one of three (3) children. He had a brother named Joseph George Schmitt, Jr. and a sister Elizabeth Mae Schmitt.

My dad Robert Davis (Davis is his mothers maiden name) Schmitt was born on 29 July 1924 in Buffalo, New York

In June of 1941, at the age of 17, Bob graduated from Bennett Hhig School, 2885 Main Street, Buffalo, New York

23 Mar 1943, Bob was serving in World War II. This was Bobs enlistment date : Name Robert D Schmitt Birth Year 1924 Race White, citizen Nativity State or Country New York State of Residence New York County or City Erie Enlistment Date 23 Mar 1943 Enlistment State New York Enlistment City Buffalo Branch No branch assignment Branch Code No branch assignment Grade Private Grade Code Private Term of Enlistment Enlistment for the duration of the War or other emergency, plus six months, subject to the discretion of the President or otherwise according to law Component Selectees (Enlisted Men) Source Civil Life Education 4 years of high school Civil Occupation General industry clerks Marital Status Single, without dependents Height 03 Weight 111

While Bob was over in Germany during the war, he would send money home to his parents, so they could put it back to buy a lot in Clarence Center, and dad was gonna build a house when he got out of service. the house that his parents rented on 231 Shirley Ave, in Buffalo, was falling apart and the landlord would not do nothing to help fix it up.. Dad got out of the Army , his mom's sister who married into the Muchow family, they sold her a lot at 73 Long Street for $400.00, and dad built a nice house, with 2 bedrooms and a bath and living room and kitchen and a basement down stairs. Only thing that happened during the build, the side of basement wall fell in... the 3 of them moved in around 1945.. Then he met my mom, who was dating a cousin of his LOL. Dad married Caroline Jean Hadler from Williamsville NY on 21 August 1948.. Their honeymoon White Face Mountain, and the 1000 Islands.

Mom and Dad had three (3) children as follows; Deborah Jeanne Gary Robert Robert Kevin

Bob was a drummer in the Clarence Center Volunteer Fire Department, on Sat nights he drove the ambulence if they needed him, which he seemed to always get a call on sat night, during his stead and potatoe dinner. When dads father died, dad and mom bought the house from my grandmother cause she did not work and had no money coming in, dad made 2 bedrooms up stairs in the house, one was for granny and eventually the other one was for my 2 brothers.

Dad was a milkman. had a good route. Him and mom loved it during the Christmas holidays, cause he would get money and moms favorite liquor Black Velvet (a Canadian whiskey) and food. .

In 1966 Dad had a major heart attack, they always say shoveling snow will do it every time. At the time, they kept him in the hospital for six weeks. When he got out, the Ste of New York, put him thru training for another job. He learned how to make contact lens's, . Well 2 months before i graduated form high school in 1970, daddy was transferred to Charlotte, NC to Bausch and Lomb. He moved down there, lived in the YMCA, came home for my graduation, and bought a house and we went down there. From then on, dad had transferred, to Orlando, Florida, Sarasota, Phoenix Az and then back to Sarasota Fla, where they lived.

Mom and dad both retired around 1992 and they bought a home in Pace Fla,. After my brother Gary was retired with disability after 15 years in the Army he retired 1st to Pace, then mom and dad came up and bought a home on the same street as my brother. Then in 1994 in Texas, my husband was retired from the railroad after 26 years , one to many injuries. Mom and Dad said move here and buy a house on same street. Oh no way, we did move to Pace but built a house about 4 miles from them.

As i sit here at my pc, i look upon the picture of my mom and dad, and think about what the nurses told me the day before my dad passed away. Knowing my dad, he knew what was coming, but the nurse, minister and some other lady, had a talk with him the night before, they prob knew all about our family, but one thing my dad was worried bout my younger brother Robert, as he was legally blind, from a motorcycle accident, he had no center vision, and he had some sizures from the accident and dad and mom, moved him in with them over 20 years ago, to help him learn how to live on his own, to do on his own, Dad was worried bout him, but in the next sentence he tells them that his daughter told him that he would never have to worry bout Robert as his older sister would make sure one way or another he would be taken care for. When Robert and i sold the house, i made sure, the cashe we both got, was used to set him up in a place that he felt comfortable in,and not far for him to ride his bike to grocery store, and his bowling he loved, a place right behind the bowling alley. Its been three years and im real proud of what my parents have done to help him, they do not have to worry bout a thing....

My dad passed away on the 3 JAN 2014 , in Pace Florida, which was 3 months after my brother Gary died in Oct 2013, and my mom died in June 2012. But my brother Robert and i made it thru... We both miss our dad, but I know he had missed mom bad, after 64 years of marriage, so now he is with her, happy.....
