“Charles Newcomb Dies at Age 85. Charles Newcomb, well known colored resident, died at 8:05 o'clock last night at his home, 1105 Newby Avenue. His age was 85 years, seven months and 25 days. Mr. Newcomb, a residnt of Mt. Vernon for the past 44 years, was a retired employe of the Car Company. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p. m. at the Cumberland Presbyterian church, with the Rev. S. S. Williams officiating, and burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. The body will remain at the family home, where friends may call at any time after 5:00 p. m. Monday. Mr. Newcomb is survived by two sons, George and Clemeth of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Mrs. Maggie Johnson of Indianola, Pa. and Mrs. Rhetta Mae Woods of Mt. Vernon; 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Tishie."
