Biography

William P Mizer was born on August 6, 1825, in Shanesville, Tuscarawas Co., Ohio^[1], to Philip Mizer and Margaret Shultz.

William P Mizer married Catherine Riggle, Daughter of Michael Riggle and Sarah Elizabeth (Bensinger) Riggle, on February 14, 1850, in Tuscarawas, Ohio,^[2] when he was 24 years old. They had 5 children.

They started out their married life in Bucks, Tuscarawas County, Ohio, where he was a farmer.^[3]In 1856 William was engaged in Merchandising in Bakersville, Ohio. He was a merchant In 1860, with Catharine-29, taking care of the home and children, Sarah-9, Michael-7, and Elizabeth-2.^[4]

He and A. Ley operated two stores; one in Shanesville and the other in Port Washington, Ohio. In 1875 they sold the Shanesville Store and in 1882 William took his two widowed daughters together with six grandchildren to a large farm near Callao, Missouri.^[5]

His wife Catherine passed away on August 5, 1910, in Callao, Macon, Missouri, at the age of 79. They had been married 60 years.

He died January 25, 1915 at the age of 89 in Macon County, Missouri.^[6] He was buried in the Locust Grove Cemetery in Callao, macon Co., Missouri.^[1]
