Biography

Eve was born about 1826, the daughter of George Mizer and Catharine Markley. In 1844, when she was about 18 years old, she married Joseph Kuhns.[1] They had the following known children:

  1. George Kuhns (1845-1852) Died as a child
  2. William Henry Kuhns (1848-1904) m Esther Alleshouse
  3. Daniel Kuhns (1849-1918) m Florence Schoonover
  4. Mary Ann Kuhns (1853-1917) m William Fulmer
  5. Harriet A Kuhns (1856-1892) m James C McBride
  6. Paulina Kuhns (1859-bef 1870) Died as a child

In 1850, Joseph (30, OH), Eve A (24, OH) and three sons—George, 5; William, 2; and Daniel, 8 months—were in Auburn Township, Tuscarawas County, Ohio. Joseph was a carpenter and valued his real estate at $450.[2] They remained in Auburn Township through the 1860 Census, when the household included Joseph (40, OH), Eva A (35, OH) and five children: William H (12), Daniel (10), Mary A (6), Harriet A (4), and Paulina (1). John Fetter (32, Switzerland) was also in the home, employed as a farm laborer. Joseph was a farmer, valuing his real estate at $1,800 and his personal estate at $300.[3] Neighboring relatives included the families of Joseph's brother Leonard Kunz (42, OH) and Eva's brother John Mizer (40, OH).

Eva passed away about 1863. She is likely buried at what is today the Penrod Family Cemetery in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, on land specified as a "family burying ground" in her father's will, but no grave marker remains.
