Biography

Lillis (Mitchell) Holman was born in North Carolina.

Lillis Mitchell^[1] was born 25 December 1775^[2] in North Carolina^[3][4], most likely Rowan County. She was the daughter of Andrew Mitchell and Margaret Snoddy.

A marriage bond was issued 25 August 1804 in Rowan County, North Carolina for Isaac Holman and Lillis Nichols.^[5] Lillis' surname "Nichols" suggests that she was previously married. Isaac and Lillis were married 9 September 1804.^[1]

Lillis relocated to Clark County, Indiana, where Isaac had been living. Isaac and Lillis were the parents of two known children, both born in Clark County, Indiana:

1. Matilda Holman
2. Andrew Mitchell Holman

Her husband died in 1843. The 1850 and 1860 census records shows Lillis living with her son Andrew and his family in Utica, Clark, Indiana.^[3][4]

Lillis (Mitchell) Holman, age 90, died 19 December 1866 in Clark County, Indiana, and was buried at New Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Watson, Clark, Indiana, United States.^[2]
