Jean Mousnier est baptisé le 8 janvier 1651 à Trois-Rivières, fils de M Mousnier et __ Fafar (document endommagé), parrain Bertrand Fafar marraine Marguerite Haiet, le missionnaire René Ménard officiant[1]

Mariage
Contrat de mariage de Jean Musnier et Marguerite Housseau (31 août 1670). Vol III pg 48 Notaire Romain Becquet[2]

Le 5 octobre 1670 à Ste-Anne-de-Beaupré, Jean Meusnier, fils de Mathurin Meusnier et de Françoise Fafart, épousa Marguerite Housseau, fille de feu Nicolas Housseau et de Marguerite de Troye, de la paroisse St-Jean de la ville de Troyes, en présence de Charles Poulliot, Michel Bouchart et Noël Simart, tous habitants de Ste-Anne, François Fillon prêtre missionnaire officiant.[3][4]

Ménage établi sur l'Île d'Orléans, puis en Acadie.

Couple avec 7 enfants.

  2. -Anne Musnier, née 10 août 1674 bapt 30 à Ste-Famille, IO; mariée à Pierre Labbé
  3. -Paul Meusnier, né 17 février 1676 bapt 23 à Ste-Famille, IO; marié à Claire d'Abbadie de Saint Castin vers 1700.
  4. -Charles Musnier, né 19 février 1678 bapt 24 à Ste-Famille, IO
  5. -Marguerite, née vers 1680; mariée à François Michel dit La Ruine vers 1695 en Acadie. En 1701 et 1707, ils sont nommés à Les Mines (Rivière Ste-Croix), en 1714 ils sont à Pisiquit, Acadie et ont 7 enfants, 3 garçons et 4 filles..
  6. -Philippe, né vers 1682, il sera marié à Brigitte, (fille de Jean Vincent d'Abbadie de Saint Castin, enseigne du régiment de Carignan-Salière, et de Pidianske (Pidiwammiskwa) ou Marie-Mathilde, fille du chef , Madockawando, de la tribu abénaquise des Pentagouets (Penobscots). ) née avant 1680. Ils vivaient à Nasqueag Point, à environ 10 milles de Pentagoët. Un raid anglais commandé par un certain CALDWELL voulut l'obliger à dénoncer ses compatriotes. A la suite de son refus, il fut battu à mort, Brigitte violée et la maison pillée (courrier du Juge Samuel PENHALLOW du 20/4/1703). Brigitte se réfugia à Québec. On possède 2 lettres d'elle, écrites à son père à Pau en 1703 et 1705 qui fait part du décès de son frère Bernard (Source: Marjolaine ST-PIERRE) Brigitte est citée par Y.Cazaux, comme 4ième fille légitime du baron, après Marie (Cécile Thérèse), Anastasie et Ursule.
  7. -Catherine, née vers 1684, mariée à Claude Boudrot, vers 1700. Nous les retrouvons à Grand Pré et St-Charles aux Mines en Acadie.[5][6]

Le 16 février 1691: Jean Meusnier habitant d'Acadie reçoit, sur une petite rivière appelée par les Indiens Maricadéoüy (la rivière Magaguadavic, N.B), une concession en censive.[7]

Le 6 mars 1697: Jean Meunier se voit demander de livrer à Monsieur de Villebon à Pentagouët un paquet.[8]

It seems unusual that a man born and married in Canada would then relocate to Acadie. Does anyone know why he did? Was it simply an opportunity to have land? It's an interesting move, and I'd love to know why.

Yvon, yes definitely. The only thing the project asks is that you collaborate on big things like changing spouses, parents. This is an easy one because the 7 children are documented (as you note) and just need to be created. We'd appreciate your participation. However, in this particular case, the spouse is a Fille du Roi so that project has added a PPP to her. It may not allow you to add her to the children. If that happens, just drop them a note with the profiles you've made so they can add her as their mother.
