Anne Inez McCaffrey (1 April 1926 – 21 November 2011) was an American-Irish writer known for the Dragonriders of Pern science fiction series. She was the first woman to win a Hugo Award for fiction (Best Novella, "Weyr Search", 1968) and the first to win a Nebula Award (Best Novella, "Dragonrider", 1969). She was inducted by the Science Fiction Hall of Fame on 17 June 2006.[6][7][8] She also received the Robert A. Heinlein Award for her work in 2007.
Anne Inez McCaffrey was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on April 1, 1926. She was the daughter of George McCaffrey and Anne McElroy.[1][2]
Anne graduated from Radcliffe College in 1947.
Anne married Horace Wright Johnson in 1950. She filed for divorce in 1970.
Anne died at her home, Dragonhold-Underhill, in County Wicklow on 21 November 2011, and was buried in Kilquade New Cemetery, Wicklow, County Wicklow[3].
