Biography

Mamie Lloyd was born in December 1884^[1] in Girardville, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. She and Wm Charles Coop, a resident of Elizabeth N.J., were married on 12 July 1908 by James Truscot, Minister of the Gospel. The marriage may have taken place in Mahanoy City, Schuylkill County.^[2]

She and Charles made their home in Elizabeth, Union County, New Jersey, shortly after their marriage^[3] and had at least three children together^[4][5] before Charles' death in February 1928.^[6][7]

Mamie's parents, Daniel and Catherine "Kate" Lloyd, had also moved to Elizabeth.^[8] Mamie and the children moved in with them following Charles' death.^[7] After her father's death, she and her mother continued to share a home at 1149 Fairmont Ave, Elizabeth City, Union County, New Jersey, with family members. She worked full time as a mangler in a laundry.^[9]

Research Notes

On the 1920 Census, Mamie is listed as an Alien in Column 14 "Naturalized or Alien." Although she was born in Pennsylvania, she made have lost her citizenship as a result of marrying William Charles Coop. This could have generated paper work which should be tracked down.^[5]

In the Ancestry databases for "Social Security Death Index" and "U.S. City Directories, 1822-1995," records were found for a Mamie Coop. More research is needed to confirm that these records are for the same woman as the Mamie (Lloyd) Coop of this profile:
