Biography

Johanne was born in Norway in 1845 to Knud Olsen and Marie Johannesdr Krogfofs in Nannastad, Akershus, Norway. She was baptized on 14 Dec 1845 at their local parish.^[1]. Her family immigrated to the United States when she was 16 years old, in 1860.

She married Christopher (Michalsen) McCallson on 1 Jul 1871 in Winona, Minnesota, United States ^[2] and they had 9 children in Fillmore, Minnesota. Her husband was a soldier in the civil war and was injured in 1880. He died young (54) and she died a few years later, in 1902.

In the 1880 United States Census Johanna was living on their farm in Fillmore, Minnesota, United States with her husband and 4 children. ^[3]

Her husband Christopher served in the American Civil War in the 10th Regiment, Minnesota Infantry in 1862. Unfortunately, he was injured, and they filed an Invalid Application on 10 Apr 1880 (Invalid Application: 364.035 Cert: 211.288) ^[5]

In the 1895 Minnesota Census all 8 children were living with them on the farm. ^[6]

She died on 31 Oct 1902 and was buried at the Newburg Methodist Church Cemetery in Newburg, Fillmore, Minnesota, United States ^[7]

• trying to find their marriage record. complete
• unsure what she did in the USA prior to marrying Conrad (10 years later), unless the reporting in 1900 Census was incorrect
• It seems she adopted her father's last name, instead of the tradition of using her father's first name as her last name (Knudsen), as most records indicate she called herself Johanne Olsen (possibly easier to do in the USA)
