Biography

I was born in Washington, DC and grew up in the suburb of Falls Church, VA, which, in uniquely Virginia fashion, was actually Fairfax County. I was graduated from George C Marshall High School in 1975, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1979, and then spent 6 years in the United States Air Force.

I stumbled into genealogy by way of sorting through my mother's house full of stuff after she died in December 2012. My cousin and I found volumes of old photographs of our grandparents, great-grandparents, and even great GREAT-grandparents, all of which has been amazing, humbling, and fascinating. How odd to see our parents, grandparents, and even great-grandparents in their youthful years. How grand to see them having fun, enjoying life, and their families. How interesting to see how they changed over the years as their children grew, had their own children, and on it goes . . .

As a history major, and a student of history, I also enjoy seeing how my family's lives interacted with the historical contexts of the days in which they lived, some of whom I've been able to trace to colonial times, many through Civil War times, and the majority through major events of the 20th century. One thing I can say about my family - we are a patriotic bunch. Every generation of both sides of my family has had more than one family member representing the family in service to this wonderful country of ours.

I invite you along the journey of discovering my family - I have certainly found it fascinating, and I enjoy those I meet along the way. I find it helps me feel connected to something, this greater picture of family, and it is even more interesting to meet strangers with similar interests and tangential connections - and sometimes, even family I never knew about! So, welcome to my journey through family, and let me know if I can help you with yours!

Dear Robin,

The Profile Improvement Project (PIP) is performing a check-in with project members. Please review the following and respond to let us know that you are content with your current team or if you would like to be more involved.

The Project operates in a team structure. There are currently three participant PIP Teams -- The Maintenance Category Team, the Unknowns Team, and the Biography Team. There is also the Voyage Team which guides new Voyagers. See the Profile Improvement Project Teams for a brief outline of each team.

There are currently three different Biography Teams - The Biography Team, the Abandoned Team, and the Popular Team.

You're currently identified as a member of the Biography Team. The Biography Team works on profiles from their watchlist and other profiles that interest them. Are you happy with the Team you are on? If you are interested in working with a different Team, please let us know.

If you have not already done so, we invite you to join the email GoogleGroup and text chat Discord channel for our project. (You will need your Wiki ID for both). Neither is required; we also use the Profile_Improvement tag in G2G for Project announcements.

We thank you for all you do to help the Profile Improvement Project meet its goals. We would like to hear about the successes you’ve had and would also appreciate any feedback you have to help improve the Project. Hello Robin,

We wrote to you about the check-in for Profile Improvement Project (PIP) a couple of weeks ago. Would you like to continue in Biography Team Level 1 where we have placed you? That's the Team that works on improving profiles from both your own watchlist and projects you are involved with to Level 1 of the PIP Profile Standards.

If you do not wish to participate in the Project, please let us know. If we don’t hear from you within 7 days we will remove you from the Project, but we will welcome you back at any time. We would like to hear from you with any ideas or suggestions.

Dear Robin,

The Profile Improvement Project (PIP) is performing its first annual check-in with our project members. Please review the following and let us know if you are content where we have placed you or would like to be more involved.

We are in the process of transitioning to a team structure. There will be three participant PIP Teams to start -- The Maintenance Category Team, the Unknowns Team, and the Biography Team. There is also the Voyage Team which guides new Voyagers. See the Profile Improvement Project Teams for a brief outline of each team.

You're currently identified as a member of the Biography Team Level 1, working on profiles from your own watchlist, from projects in which you are involved, and whatever else you find. Biography Teams Levels 2 and 3 will work on designated profiles for notables (Level 3) and everyday people (Level 2). Please let us know if you would like to help with a higher-level Bio Team or one of the other Teams.

You joined the Project before the Voyage started in late 2018. We would like to invite you to consider a "fast track" Voyage, especially if you would like to work at a higher level on the Biography Team. If you’re interested, choose a profile from your own watchlist from the 19th or 20th century that you have completed to the best of your ability and compare it to the Voyage Biography Standards. If your profile is at Level 2 or better, include a link to the profile in your response to this check-in for a “fast track” review.

We would also like to invite you to join the email GoogleGroup and text chat Discord channel for our project. If you request to join our GoogleGroup, please be sure to include your Wiki ID. Neither is required; we also use the Profile_Improvement tag in G2G for Project announcements.

We thank you for all you do to help the Profile Improvement Project and WikiTree. The Project’s mission is to:

Make profiles beautiful! We clean up messy biography sections and sources, and try to set standards for attractive, useful, and well-written biographies, starting with those we manage.

We know you’re working on profiles *smile* We would like to hear about successes you’ve had toward the Project’s goals. We would also appreciate any feedback you might have to help us improve the Project. Please share your thoughts in a reply to this comment or privately via private message to either of us.

Sincerely,

Debi Hoag and Robin Shaules Co-Leaders, Profile Improvement Project

Hi,

I sent you a message a while ago on behalf of the Germany Project and have yet to hear back from you. I hope you are well.

If I don’t hear from you in the next week or so I’ll assume you no longer wish to be in the project and go ahead and remove you. You would, of course, be most welcome to rejoin at any time via the G2G sign-up post.

Best wishes,

Kylie :-)

Hi,

On behalf of the Germany Project, I am currently undergoing our member check-in's and wanted to verify that you are still interested in being a member of the project. Are you currently assigned to or working with one of our Sub-projects or Teams? We have many new teams so have a look on the Germany project page for the full list. I would be delighted to help you get setup in one or more of our collaborative teams!

We use Google groups for project collaboration, so if you are not yet setup, please submit a join request and we will get that approved as quickly as possible. We also ask that you check your follwed tags to make sure you are following the correct project tag (GERMANY) so you don't miss any disucssions in G2G.

We really appreciate your contributions on WikiTree, and thank you for all your hard work. If you have any questions please ask. I would also love to hear any feedback you may have for the project!

Please respond by private message. I look forward to hearing from you soon!
