Hi Jeffry, my Wiki Genealogy Feed shows that you have created several profiles for living Hammons. Hammon with no "d"! My mother is a Hammon and her line came to the US before 1737. See Hammon-94. Would love to hear about your Hammons!
My closest Hammon connection is Juanita Hammon whose son Darius married a second cousin. My records end with William Henry Hammon (1857-1937), Findagrave lists his birthplace as Boone County, Kentucky. I have entered all the information I have for Hammons. Thanks for asking.
My name is Jeffrey Wightman. I am a descendent of Earl Doty Wightman (D-1963) of Akron, Ohio. Earl was married first to to Grace Grund of Fayetteville, Arkansas. There were 4 children, Barbara, Harold, Charles A., and Gloria. Charles Avery Wightman was my father. My grandmother Grace died in the early 1980s. All four of these children of Grace are deceased. I am occasionally in touch with a couple of Gloria's children in Newark, Ohio.
Family lore paints Earl D. as something of a ne'er-do-well; the family in Ohio says little about him. Grace remarried to Frank McClellan, and they had 3 more children. Earl remarried the woman named Katherine Gahagan, but I recall that marriage ended sometime in the 1950s.
It is interesting to take these steps back to on Edward Wightman in central England, who was distinguished as the last person burned at the stake, in 1612. For heresy. I can state that there are still such traits in the family.
Per your research, descendants of Edward landed in Newport, RI, some settled in Connecticut, and one was founder of the first Baptist congregation in that colony. This all occurred in the mid 1600s. Then there as a migration to the Cuyahoga Valley in Ohio in the 1700s, from which the name "Charles Avery Wightman" is first noted. This would be my great grandfather. Evidently, at least one ancestor served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. From your information he was in Grant's forces around Richmond and Petersburg, VA, but I have no idea what rank he was.
Thanks for your compilation, very informative. Now I must travel to merry old England and raise pint to my heretic ancestor!
You are very active and appear to have a link to the name Withy from SW England (or Wythe)
I am a very spasmodic and amateur WikiTree-er, but would devour any information you are able to share
My great grandfather was Edward Withy and he emigrated to NZ in 1886 - all by the name Withy are his descendants
His ancestors were Withy, Lloyd, Fowler, Canvin, etc - all from Quaker stock in western UK - Bristol, Birmingham etc
There was a link to the William Penn founder of Pennsylvania
Any information would be gratefully received from you or anyone else who sees this post
Sincerely Alan Withy
As far as I know my only connection to the surname Withy is John Withy who married Mary Syng. Mary Syng is my first cousin seven times removed. At present I have found no additional information on John Withy.
I wanted to say thank you for connecting Thomas Whitman to a much deeper branch of family history. In browsing the extended branch, I was fascinated by history I knew nothing about. I appreciate your efforts!

4th Great Grandson of Thomas Whitman
You are welcome. I do enjoy connecting already existing entries together with other branches of the WikiTree. Thomas Whitman is my fourth cousin six times removed, common ancestor is George Wightman. My branch is with George's daughter, Elizabeth (Wightman) Huling. The reference source, GEORGE WIGHTMAN AND DESCENDANTS, contains 801 primary entries, Thomas' primary entry is 201, but I have just finished his parent's entry, #96. There's still plenty of exciting and interesting work to do on the Wightman book.
Interesting that you have a book to work from. I've heard the library where I grew up had a few with RI lineage. Some day when I'm home I will do some more digging there.
Interesting that you say Huling is a family name. It looks familiar so we may share more relatives. That said, I know families in RI often grew together. More of a family hedge than a tree. Haha!
Jeffry, the Appreciation Team thanks for you for efforts toward making our Shared Tree the best it can be with your 1000+ contributions during August 2019. You are an important part of what we are all about!

Pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, thus coordinating with others is essential.
Based on your contributions, I suggest: United States History, leaders- Ellen Smith and Sarah Heiney.
Or use the Pre-1700 Projects list to review other possibilities.
Have questions? Ask in the comments section of my profile.
