Biography

Alice Hall was the daughter of John and Hannah Hall. She was born on 27 September, 1771. The family were Quakers.^[1]

Alice Hall married John Allason at Pardshaw, Cumberland on June 7, 1793. ^[2]

John and Alice's children were;

• Mary b. 1795 ^[3]
• Hannah b. 1797 ^[4]
• Rachel b. 1799 ^[5]
• Ann b. 1801 ^[6]
• Alice b. 1804 ^[7]

Alice's daughter Alice died in 1830 aged 25.

Alice herself died in 1833 aged 62 at Beech Hill near Mosser. She was buried in Pardshaw, Cumberland on November 28th. ^[8]

Obituary

"ALICE ALLASON Beech Hill Cumberland 62 25 Ilmo 1833 Mother of Alice Allason of whom see a short account in No 19 for 1831 Although of a diffident and un assuming disposition she was an active and useful member of our Society and filled for many years the stations of elder and overseer and whilst endeavouring to perform the various duties of these offices as well as those required in the social circle she was eminently characterized for that sincerity and cheerfulness which enabled her to act faithfully to her own views and to the comfort and en couragement of her friends The poor and afflicted in her neighbourhood were objects of her tender sympathy and readily gained her kind assistance thus her steady example and patient perseverance in well doing have often been a silent but impressive lesson to those around her Her last illness was of an inflammatory nature which proved fatal in little more than two days...." ^[9]

Research Notes

One transcription has her death being at Beech Hill in Berkshire, another has it as Northumberland, most likely though she was buried in Brigham like her daughter. The "residence place" was listed as Beech Hill which is just outside of Mosser, Cumberland. Her burial date was three days after her death, it is likely she was buried in the same county as she died. ^[10][11]
