Biography

Obituary: Surrounded by the love of family, Mum, in her 92nd year, peacefully fell asleep on February 17 2013 at Millennium Trail Manor, Niagara Falls, ON and is now sheltered safe within the arms of God, reunited with her loving husband Ken (1978), parents Harley and Amber (Furlong) Grant and brothers Aldous and Murray (Iva) Grant.

Forever grateful for her love and care are her daughter Sharon of Thorold, ON and chosen son Wayne (Bonnie) Smith of Waterloo, ON. Left to cherish her memories are brother Delton (Gloria) Grant of Meductic, NB and sister-in-law Verna Grant of Bedell, NB and many nieces and nephews and their families.

Gramma Sharpe will be fondly remembered by her special grandchildren, Todd (Andrea) Smith and Lisa (Eric) Klimstra and great-grandchildren Carter, Jada, Isabell and Genevieve.

Madeline, Ken and Sharon moved to Kitchener, ON from New Brunswick in 1949 to begin their new life, but still vacationed in New Brunswick every year. Mum was known for her love of knitting, crocheting, collecting dolls, plates and together with Dad, antiques and carnival glass. The love of music ran in her family, and in earlier years she would play guitar and join Aldous, Murray and her Uncle Roy for a musical get together. Many nights were spent around the piano at Murray and Iva's home and later, Delton and Gloria's, singing with her family. In 2002 she moved to St. Catherines, ON to be closer to her daughter and continued to be part of activities with new friends.

After a funeral service in Ontario, Madeline was returned home to New Brunswick to be placed beside her beloved Ken at the Upper Meductic Cemetery. A funeral service was held at the Meductic Baptist Church, 391 Route 165, Meductic, NB on Saturday, February 23, 2013 with Rev. Charles Yerxa officiating. Danny Grant read the scripture. Music was provided by several people, Jaime Lynn Wilson, Leonard Orser, Allen Milbury and following Words of Remembrance of Madeline, her daughter Sharon sang Sheltered In The Arms Of God. Wyona Fletcher and David Grant spoke of fond memories of Madeline. A reception followed in the church fellowship room.

Pallbearers were nephews Richard Grant, David Grant, Larry Grant, Michael Grant, Glen Grant, Andy Grant and Danny Grant.

For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Madeline, the family has suggested the Alzheimer Society or the Upper Meductic Cemetery.
