There are only four Giberson names listed in the list of American Soldiers of the Revolution. Three of them are James Giberson and his brothers John and Job Giberson. Their family group sheet is shown on page ---. A fourth name, that of a Joseph Giberson who enlisted in Shrewsbury NJ (near Sandy Hook) is also listed, but his relationship to the 3 brothers is not known, although probably a cousin. As we will see in the next chapter, there were plenty of other Giberson participants in the Revolution, but most were on the other side.
Incidentally, James, John and Job’s military records were found under the unusual spelling of their last names as “Gibison” (no “r”). That is what happens when you can not read or write -- the Army gives you its own version of how to spell your name. What’s more, apparently all of the descendants of this branch of the family still use that spelling, Gibison, although I am sure they all read and write quite beautifully these days.
Note: There is an additional cousin Benjamin Giberson that fought in the American Revolution.
