He was an engineer, who was among the founders of a company which later turned into Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg better known as MAN.[1]
On 17 May 1841 he married Adele Le Bret (1814–1867), daughter of Albert Benjamin Le Bret, professor of natural sciences in Stuttgart.[1]
In 1868 he was living in Rebgasse 1 in Basel.[2]
