Born in Worcester, Massachusetts to Harriman Cleveland Dodd and Barbara Mitchell Jacobs. They were 9th cousins twice removed. Because I had Rheumatic Fever, the family moved to West Palm Beach, Florida, leaving on the fourth of July 1947. During the trip by car, my older sister had to sit between me and my younger brother to keep the peace. [1]

I lived in West Palm Beach until 1959 when I graduated from Palm Beach High School. After graduation, I was off to Atlanta, Georgia to attend Georgia Tech. I graduated from Tech in 1963 with a BS in Chemical Engineering. [1]

At Tech, I took ROTC so I had a two-year commitment to serve in the Army. I went into the Army in August 1963. After I went through the Basic Officer Course, I was assigned to Fort Belvoir, Virginia. [1]

I married Mary Annie Phillips on 10 December 1966 In Boissevain Baptist Church, Boissevain, Tazewell County, Virginia. On the way to the church, my mother-in-law to be offered me $500 and the cost of my airfare from Germany to the US and back if I didn't marry her only child. [1] [2]

Thank you David Dodd! I have a strong connection to the Dodd line, and many of my ancestors are also from Massauchusetts. I would never have known but for people such as you. Thank you, sir. And thank you for your patriotic service in the US Army.

Have been noticing your name pop up a lot in some of my favorite DD reports. Mostly those revolving around templates (841, 842, 843, 894, 896, 897, etc.). Just wanted to say THANKS! Great to see others interested in these reports. :)

Hi David, thank you for your suggestion to reduce the number of citations in my loooooong profile of William Holmes; based on your suggestion i learned how to name citations and this has reduced the number of citations by about 10% - unfortunately, the others are unique so further reductions might be hard. What I am doing is editing his biography down to be something that is both more readable and more manageable, but that's going to take me a couple of days. Still, worth doing.

Thanks again.

Hi David! I wanted to get back to you about your request that the US Southern Colonies Project take a look at the profile for Elizabeth Bacon - and to thank you for cleaning up that profile!

I do not think her profile needs to be managed by a project. Her brother's profile is a project-managed/project-protected profile because he was a colonial governor of Virginia and also has the same name as his more famous (infamous?) cousin - the Nathaniel Bacon of "Bacon's Rebellion". Her sister's daughter married into the Burwell family & is an ancestor of William Henry Harrison (9th US President).

Cheers, Liz

P.S. You may have forgotten. You submitted the request on 4 March. Sorry for the delayed response!

Hi David,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are usually shared by many descendants, collaborating with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus, whether time period, location, or topic. Review the project pages to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

Can't find what you're looking for? Let me know, and I can make some suggestions! :-)
