Pier (aka Petrus, Pieter)was born on March 1, 1909 in Kwadendamme. He was named after his grandfather on his mother’s side, Pier de Punder. He was baptized on March 2, 1909. Godparents were the grandparents from his mother’s side; Pier de Punder and Tannetje Maartense.
He attended school from April 1, 1915 till March 21, 1921.
He worked in the orchard of his uncle Willem de Punder. In 1928 he failed medical exam for military service, because of his vision. This took away his option to move out of his parents house. HE stayed in Kwadendamme. He then worked for P.C an L de Jongh in Goes, where he looked after getting shipments of plants and trees ready. He took courses at night school and improved his education that way. In 1942 he became postman, and was promoted to postmaster, when the then postmaster died. In 1951 the postal service was re-organized, eliminating the post office in Kwadendamme. He was then promoted to postmaster in Terheijden, and moved there July 4, 1951. He retired from the postal service at the age of 60.
