Biography

Lester was born about 1899. Lester Dayton ... He passed away in 1961. [1]

Lester lived his first 40 years in Cumberland County, TN. He went to school through the 8th grade, but did not continue because the nearest school was too far to travel. He worked on his father's farm and began logging in his early 20s. While logging in the hills near Linary, TN, he met his future wife, Elba, who was sister to some of the men hired by Lester in his logging business.

Lester's father died 5 months before Lester and Elba were married. Because Lester promised to take care of his younger siblings, he and Elba moved in with Lester's mother. They lived there until Lester built a split log home on another part of the family farm about 1930. During The Depression, many people from the south moved to work and live in the north. Lester and Elba moved to Ohio and Lester became the greenskeeper of a private golf club known as Columbia Hills Country Club 1941. He continued in this work until his death in 1961. He died on the golf course from a heart attack.
