Biography
Joshua is thought to have been born in Abbeville District South Carolina, the son of James and ? Cullins. He married Jane Smith at Abbeville about 1810, and they moved with their children to Fayette County, Indiana in the 1820's. Joshua died in 1834 in Fayette County. His place of burial is unknown, but is thought to be Old Waters Ireland Universalist Cemetery.
Children of Joshua and Jane are: Abner m. 1st Elizabeth Steele, 2nd Nancy Kerr; Albert m. Betsy Jane Martin; Phoebe m. James McIlwain; Larkin m. Louisa Jane Barnhart; Nancy m. John Sims; Malinda m. Samuel Stanley (she was his 2nd wife); Marshall (fate unknown); and Jesse who was evidently disabled. Last known of Jesse aka Zeke is that he was living with Albert in 1870. Believe there was another daughter, Sarah, who married James Youngs in 1832. As there is no mention of her in father's estate in 1834, and no trace of her after her marriage, it would appear that she died childless between 1832 and 1834. Census records from SC in 1820 support the existence of this daughter.
