Michael was born about 1820 in County Cork, Ireland. As a young man, he emigrated to Yorkshire, England, where he spent the rest of his life.
Michael, then in the 44th Regiment of Foot, can be seen in the 1841 census at the Citadel & Barracks in Drypool near Hull. In the 1851 census, he lived with his sister Bridget in Pontefract while working as an agricultural labourer.
On 10 January 1853, Michael married a fellow Irish immigrant, Margaret Dogherty, in Pontefract. His marriage certificate states his father was Thomas Clark, a farmer. Michael and Margaret had two daughters and one son together. The family can be seen in the 1861 census living at Horsefair in Pontefract. Michael was then working as a hawker.
Michael passed away in 1867 and was buried in Featherstone on 21 October that year.
