Biography

Thomas's wife was named Martha. The family was associated with Ballynagilly; and also with the adjacent townland of Dunmore.

As there were several people called Thomas Bell of these two townlands, it is difficult to ascertain which, if any, of the death registrations in his name belong to him.

Research Notes

Age estimate based on ages of children but it is very wide.

Identity and records

He does not seem to be the same person as Thomas Bell (1806-abt.1879) of Ballynagilly, m. Elizabeth Clarke as seen in the 3rd Cookstown Presbyterian notes.

The church notes are from 1842; so if Martha was a later wife we would expect to see this, since some of Thomas and Martha's children were born in the 1830s it seems.

The 5 May 1879 death record could be either Thomas. The informant was Robert Bell. (The other Thomas does have a son Robert as per the church notes).

It is possible that one of these other death registrations for "Thomas Bell" are for this profile:

In fact, Thomas Bell (abt.1802-1870) is a quite plausible candidate for this person; due to the informant "Anne Bell" perhaps being his daughter. (And it's one down out of these three married Thomas deaths with no wife identified!)

It may also be possible he is the same person as Thomas Bell (abt.1815-1886) who has a tentative DNA connection to Thomas John Bell (see next section).

Thomas A. Bell?

In Griffith's for Dunmore, Thomas A. Bell has lot 7. Several children of this profile have the name Andrew , so perhaps that was Thomas Andrew Bell and that is this profile? However, Lot 7 transfers to Thomas John Bell (abt.1830-1891) (confirmed by The Graham Letters), part of a line of Bells where the name Andrew does not occur at all. So, no easy answers here either.

Children

See wife's profile for notes on linked children (to avoid repetition).

In valuations

In Griffith's there is no Thomas of Ballynagilly; there are two Thomas of Dunmore.

In the Tithe Applotment 1826 there is Thomas of Dunmore and Thomas of Ballynagilly.

Lot 1D of Dunmore clearly belongs to his children (see Martha's profile for notes).
