Biography

Baptism

John Allyn was baptized on 30 June 1546 at Saint Nicholas Acons in London, England.[1][2]

Probate

On 3 May 1558, his stepfather, Raaf Greeneway wrote in the following words in his will, "I give and bequeath to John Alleyn, William Allen, and Mary Allen, my wife's children, threescore pounds of current money of England, that is to say, to every of them 20 pounds. To be paid to them and every of them at such time and when as they and every of them shall be of their full age of 21st year or day of marriage; and I will and do devise by this my last will that of any of the said three children happen or fortune to die or decease out of this present world before they or any of them shall be of their full age of 21st year or else be married. That then the parts and portions of him, her, or them so deceasing shall fully and wholly remain to him, her, or them overliving, and also, my will is, and I do devise by this my last will, that if it were fortune or happen all the said three children to die or decease out of this present world before they or any of them shall be of the said full age of 21st year or else be married. That then the said some of 60 pounds by me to them before given and bequeathed shall fully and wholly remain to those of the poor people lodged and harbored within Christopher's Hospital, aforesaid." Raaf Greeneway's brother, Thomas Greneway executed his will on 27 June 1558 for him and would give him 20 pounds at the age of 21 years.[3]

On 26 October 1564, his step-uncle, Thomas Grenewaie wrote the following words in his will, "I give and bequeath to Willm Allen, John Allen, and Margerie Allen, the children of Jasper Allen, the late Citizen and Draper of London, deceased, the sum of twenty pounds of good and lawful money of England, that is, to say to every of them 6 pounds 13 shillings 4 pence to be paid to the said Willm and John at their full age of one and twenty years and to the said Margerie at such time and when as she shall be of her full age of one and twenty years or be married and if it happens or fortune, the said Willm Allen, John Allen, Margerie Allen, or any of them to die or decease out of this present world before such time as they or any of them shall be of their full age of one and twenty years or the said Margerie shall be married then my will is and I do devise by this my last will and testament that the parts and portions of him, her, or them so deceasing shall fully and wholly remain to him, her, or them overliving equally and indifferently amongst them to be divided." On 11 January 1565, William Gibbons and John Howland executed his will for him and would give him 6 pounds, 13 shillings, and 4 pence at the age of 21 years.[4]
