Family Tradition says Martha Allen was full blooded Cherokee Indian. Maiden name may have possibly been Lawson.

Note: This has since been proven FALSE.

Letter from Brad Allen states the name Lawson came from a distant relative named Janet Mannookian. Her mother-in-law was an Allen and had a copy of a hand-written genealogy which was done by the great granddaughter of Hezekiah Allen back in the early 1900's. She stated that she thought the maiden name was Lawson.

1838, June 13 - Will of Ezekiel Allen

  • Thomas G. Webb, DeKalb County historian states that even though the will says Ezekiel or Ezekiah, this is unquestionably the will of Hezekial Allen. Proof of this is in the DeKalb Co. TN administrations, 1838-1846, pages 58 and 94, and in DeKalb Co. TN Deed book A page 489. The date given for signing the will is plainly 12 June 1838. The date of proving the will in court is 6 March 1838. Probably the will was actually signed in 1837. TGW)
