Philip Wightman is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A211906.
Philip Wightman was born 13 June 1737, in Warwick, Kent, Rhode Island.[1] His parents were John Wightman and Phebe Havens.
Philip Wightman was a farmer in Warwick, living on part of the ancestral Wightman homestead in Coweset. He received his first land by "deed of love" from his father, and in 1770 under the latter's will [2] inherited the western part of the homestead located on the present Hardig Road. He died intestate, aged fifty-one. The final inventory of personal property was returned 14 September 1789 (Warw. Prob., iv, 208-9). His wife, Mary Gorton, was daughter of Judge Othniel Gorton, jurist and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Rhode Island from 1788 to 1790. [3]

Philip served in the Revolutionary War. [5][6] He is listed in the 1777 Rhode Island Military Census:
Service: RI Military Census - Phillip Wightman - Age 16-50 - Able to bear arms. [7]
Philip is on the roster for 33 days of service between Dec 1776 and Jan 1777, in Capt. Squire Millard. Col. John Waterman Militia.
Private Philip Wightman served with Rhode Island Militia during the American Revolution.
