Francis Montgomery was born about 1814. He is the son of Daniel Welborn and Sarah Douglas. He is named in his father's 1834 will and other probate documents in Wilkes county, North Carolina.
Francis has a female cousin, Frances Montgomery Wellborn, daughter of James and Rebecca (Johnson) Wellborn. Miss Frances M. Wellborn married Wright Lane Earp.
