Biography

Andrew was born on May 21, 1797, probably in Virginia.


He married Frances Holland (1801–1898) on 5 Apr 1824 in Franklin Co., Virginia.[1] [2]

Their children were William Hunter, John Peter, George A., Andrew E., Sarah Elizabeth, Callowhill Minnis, and Theodrick M.[3]

Andrew was a farmer.

Census

On Andrew's 1830 census, there were five enslaved people.[4] On his 1840 census there were ten.[5]

1850 US Federal Census Henry, Virginia

In 1850, Andre Turner, a 53 year old farmer, lived with his wife Frances, 49, and six children: John P., 20; George A., 17; Andrew E., 15; Sarah E., 13; Calohill M., 10; and Theodrick M., 9. All were born in Virginia. [6]

1860 Henry County, Virginia, USA

In 1860, Andrew Turner, a 63 year old farmer, lived with his wife Frances, 59; and son Andrew, 24, a farmer laborer. Malan Wiginton, 22, overseer, lived with the family. The families of John R., Robert and William Turner are enumerated on the same page.[7]

An Andrew H. Turner enlisted on 5 Oct 1864 in Franklin Co., Va., as a private, Co. B, 57th Reg't., Virginia Infantry, Confederate Army. The record says he mustered out at Appomattox Court House, Va.[8]

1870 US Federal Census Martinsville Twp., Henry, Virginia

In 1870, A H Turner, a 73 year old farmer, lived with six other family members: Frances Turner, 69; Andrew Turner, 34, a farm laborer; Eliza Turner, 29; Victory Wade?, 14; Archer Wade?, 9; and Edger Turner, 1. Two blacks, M. Mitchell, 17, a domestic servant; and Peter Turner, 13, a farm laborer, lived with the family. All were born in Virginia.[9]

Death and Burial

Andrew Turner died on December 3, 1877, and is buried at the Turner Family Cemetery, Figsboro, Henry, Virginia, USA.

In the 1860 census Andrew was a slave owner in Henry, Virginia, United States.[10]
