Biography
Betsey Tums is a part of US Black heritage.
Betsey was born before 1834, based on her enslaver's inventory probated in 1855. Since she was the mother of 6 children, her year of birth was listed as "before 1834."
Betsey's last name at birth is as yet unknown. Tums is being used but it is not known if it was her last name at birth, her previous enslaver's surname or a previous husband's surname. More research is needed.
Betsey and her 6 children were slaves of Noah L Thompson (abt.1811-abt.1854) in Leon County, Florida. They were listed on his probate inventory on 3 Feb 1855 as being valued at $3900.[1]
When William Davis died, his probated inventory included the slaves who previously belonged to Noah Thompson. They were listed on April 6, 1855 in Davis' probate record.[2]
