Sam Thompson Sr. is a part of US Black heritage.
This profile is part of the Mound Bayou, Mississippi One Place Study.

Sam Thompson was born in 1845 in Virginia.

On June 1, 1880, Sam (age 40), farm labor, was the married head of household in Beat 2, Leflore, Mississippi.[1]

On June 1, 1900, Sam (age 56) was the married head of household in Bolivar, Mississippi.[2]

On April 15, 1910, Sam (age 66) was the married head of household in Beat 3, Bolivar, Mississippi.[3]

Sam died on 17 November 1919 and was buried in the Mound Bayou Cemetery in Mound Bayou, Bolivar, Mississippi, United States.[4]

Research Notes

  • A marriage license has been located for Sam Thompson to Sallie Palmer (Bond: 22 Aug 1877. Rites: 6 Sep 1877) in Leflore County Mississippi, Vol 2, page 335. This book from FHL records: Marriage records, white, v. 1-2 1871-1879. Since this is an AA family, this may be an incorrect record. Having said that, the 1900 census record shows Sam and Sallie had been married 23 years (computes to 1877 marriage). The names of the family on the 1880 census record seems to match the names on the 1900 census, supporting the conclusion the family was in Leflore County, Mississippi about 1880.[5]
  • No information has been located to indicate the status of Sam as enslaved, but it is likely he was.
