Biography

Jenefer was born in 1801. He was the son of William Taylor and Elizabeth Hampton. He passed away in 1878.

From the Taylor family Bible Jenefer Hampton Taylor's birth was recorded as March 22nd 1801. Jenefer is the original spelling (See Bible page). It comes from the surname of a prominent family living in St. Mary's, MD. (See Daniel of St. Thomas Jenifer (1672-1730), Gent., of St. Mary's County.) Eventually the 'f' became 'ph' making the spelling Jenipher and later the name was spelled as Juniper or Junipher.

His first name did not appear in the 1850 census with his wife and family probably because the census taker couldn't figure out how to spell it.

Juniper inherited lot #8 being 13.5 acres. On 16 Oct 1822 he sold his land for $200 to John Mitchell also of Fauquier, VA Warranty was limited as respects heirs of William Evans. He was not married at the time. Juniper was married in Spencer, KY to Rebecca Boyll (1812-1882). They had ten children but four of them died in infancy. The family moved to Vigo County, IN where they bought land described as: W1/2 of NE 1/4. sec 21. tw[ 10N, Randge 9W in the district of lands subject to sale at Vincennes, IN containing 80 acres.
