BURLINGTON FLATS — William J. Squires Sr., 63, of Burlington Flats, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at M.I. Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown. He was born July 23, 1936, in Chenango County, the son of Ernest E. and Mary (Suvelyak) Squires. He married Freda Ellsworth in December 1957, she predeceased him in 1984. He later married Darleen Utter in June 1984. He owned and operated a dairy and beef farm in Burlington Flats. He would proudly say he was a farmer all his life, but enjoyed driving the Edmeston Central School buses as his side hobby. William is survived by his wife, ... his mother, Mary Squires; and his brothers and sisters, Ernest Squires Jr., Paul Squires, Vincent Squires, Charlene Moore, Sheila Dzimitrowicz and Elizabeth Hathaway. He was predeceased by his first wife, Freda; his father, Ernest; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Burlington Flats, with the Rev. Jay Henderson officiating. Calling hours are Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston. Burial will be in the spring at the Burlington Flats Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Williams' name to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
