Biography

Elizabeth (Squires) Allen is a part of US Black heritage.

Elizabeth Squires was born about 1847 in Virginia.^[1][2] She seems likely to be the daughter of Terry[? Jerry? Serry?] Squires - she was enumerated in his household in Gallipolis Township, Gallia County, Ohio in the 1860 census.^[3] Although the 1870 census doesn't state relationships directly, it seems that Elizabeth was living with her two daughters Phoebe and Joana and her sister Margaret (Squires) Sinkford in Springfield Township, Gallia County, Ohio in 1870.^[1]

Elizabeth married Julius Allen on 30 Jul 1876 in Gallia County.^[4] They lived in Springfield Township, Gallia County, Ohio in 1880^[2] and in Green Township, Gallia County, Ohio in 1900.^[5] The 1880 census lists their children as:^[2]

• Alexander Allen (born ~1870
• George Allen (1873-1941)
• Mary Allen (born ~1875)

Elizabeth died sometime between 1900 and 1910, likely in Gallia County, Ohio where she lived and where she was buried. The year of death on her gravestone is difficult to read, but the date seems to be 27 Apr 1906. She was buried in Buck Ridge Cemetery in Springfield Township, Gallia County, Ohio.^[6]
