William was born in 1811. His father was William Squire, and his mother was Susannah Baskerville.
In February 1832 William Squire and Mary Palmer were married at Stoke Damerel, Devon. [1]

In the 1861 census [2] he is farming 170 acres at Bonnaford farm, Lamerton. aged 52, and his children are
His older brother Thomas aged 54 is also listed.
In the 1871 census, the Bonneford farm is split into 100 acres (William Squire jnr) and 50 acres (William Squire snr). William Squire snr is now listed with wife Maria. Bonnaford Farm, Brentor, Bridestowe, Devon
In an archived farmers' magazine, there is a reference to W. Squire of Bonnaford Farm in a prize-giving for rams: [3]
Ram of any other age. — First prize, £10, R. Palmer ; second, £5, W. Squire, Bonnaford Farm, Brentor, Bridestowe, Devon (Tom). Reserved and higlily commended, W. Squire (Bob).
His son John Simpson Squire's obituary referred to William Squire as one who "farmed on the borders of Dartmoor, and was noted as the breeder of some of the finest Devon cattle that reached the West of England markets".
William Squire passed away in 1874.
The probate of his will [4] cites "The will of William Squire late of North Brentor in the parish of Lamerton in the county of Devon, Yeoman who died 19 November 1874 at North Brentor was oroved at the Principal Registry by Thomas Squire and Edwin Squire the Sons and Lavinia Squire, spinster the Daughter all of North Brentor the Executors.
The 3 children mentioned as executors match those in the 1861 census.
