[PROF.] RICHARD DUANE SEARS, son of Carlton Roland Sears and Mary Edith Boyd; born near Dwight, Parker Township, Morris County, Kansas, 26 January 1940. He and his wife have lived in Berea, Madison County, Kentucky, for many years.
He married in St. Louis County, Missouri, 17 June 1966, Grace Page Harris, daughter of Rev. Robert Laird and Elizabeth Kruger (Nelson) Harris. Grace was born in Wilmington, Delaware, 30 August 1943.
After receiving his Ph.D. from Ohio University he was hired by Berea College in Berea, Kentucky, where he taught for 43 years (1967-2010). He was Tripp Professor of the Humanities, Chair of the English, Theatre, and Speech Department, author of several books of history (not genealogy) and genealogical works as well. His interest in researching family and local history has continued into his old age. Now 80, he has recently joined the crowd of genealogists on WikiTree, where he is finding the various mysteries connected to formatting text and footnotes quite challenging.
Cs. 1940: Parker Township, Morris County, Kansas, E.D. 64-21, p. 6A, house no. 133.

It's pleasant to be reminded that I was once a college professor; of course, I cannot remember you. But I share your passion for genealogy, which I have been doing since I was a teenager. Keep pursuing it vigorously.
Best wishes, Richard Sears, your very distant cousin
Thank you for having a big heart ❤ and adopting the Orphaned Profiles. This After Adopting Orphans help page explains the special attention those profiles need.

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.
I finally have my free-space location ready to use (it seems); the PDF is there, but when I click on the symbol for it I get a message saying that I need to login. I started over (although I was already logged in), but I still can't click and open the PDF that is supposed to be there. Help?

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!
Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.
Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members.
Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.
Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See:https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Pre-1700_Profiles#Cite_reliable_sources).

I've just checked & he is the paternal grandfather of the wife of a 3rd cousin 3x removed. So, not very close at all.
But, my paternal great-grandparents were George Herman Shaw & Anna Elizabeth Sevier. Through them, I'm related somehow to just about everyone in Sullivan County. I'm working on a project to identify everyone who lived in Pleasant Hill Township in the category.
I want to thank you for becoming a Family Member of WikiTree, and welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.
I would suggest starting with the How-to pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.
I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site
Happy tree climbing

I am on my free-space location, which is roughly set up and ready to use (I think). I need to know how to load my PDF (40 pages) onto the site
