Research Notes
Not very helpful but there appears to only be 3 John Reids in the 1842 Upper Canada Census... Bathurst Huntley,[3] & 2 in Toronto (City) St. Davids.[4] & [5], 3 John Reeds... No Location,[6] & 2 in Newcastle Percy, side by side... [7], No John Rieds or Reads.
A Letter from 1950
Fortunately <snip>, this same relative in Ireland had a copy of a letter written in 1850 from one John Freeman Reid of Dunnville, Ontario to his cousin James Freeman Reed of Borrisokane, Tipperary, Ireland.
<snip>John Freeman Reid mentions his wife Hannah suffering from a fever, but is thankful his son and niece are fine,
<snip> “….He told me my brother Samuel is living in a place called Mimico about nine miles from Toronto and is in a delicate state of health….”
As his father would have been full age for marriage in 1902, James Freeman Reid could have been born any time after that. This makes it possible that he is the James Freeman Reed of Borrisokane, Tipperary, Ireland, that John Freeman Reid (1820-1866) Wrote to in 1950.[8]
