Enlisted in Amherst Co. against the Indians, 1774, under Capt. Alexander McClanahan, Col. Charles Lewis; joined the troops at Staunton & marched to Big Kanawha, where a severe engagement took place in which Col. Lewis was killed; vol. in Botetourt Co., Va., 1780, under Capt. James Barnett, Col. Hugh Crockett, for 3 mos. against the Tories; vol. again the same year in Amherst Co. under Capt. Barnett & marched to Big Island on Holston River against the Cherokee Indians in Col. William Campbell's Regt. Spring, 1781, in service in Capt. Barnett's Co., mounted Infty. Placed on Pension Roll Sept. 2, 1833. [1][2][3]
