Mary was born in 1785. Her father was John Miller a stocking weaver. Her mother's name on Mary's death record is illegible, but it may be Margaret McFarlane, which is what is on Mary's birth record.
When Mary married Coventry his occupation on the marriage record is given as stocking-maker. At the time he was working in Glasgow and Mary was resident there.
In the 1841 census she and Coventry were living at Newburns, Carluke, Lanarkshire. With them were the son Alexander, 20, and daughter Janet, 15. Also John Ramsay, 14 and Mary Brownlie, 6. (Find My Past 1841 census - [1])
In the 1851 census (Find My Past 1851 census [2]) Mary and Coventry are still in Carluke, but the address has changed to 1, Back Road, Carluke, Upper Ward. Their son and daughter remain with them, Alexander working as a general labourer and Janet as a dressmaker. Coventry's occupation is given as hosier (stocking-maker).
Mary died after Coventry. She is present in the 1861 census at Paton's Buildings, Carluke, Lanarkshire along with her son Alexander, still unmarried at age 40, and working as a general labourer. Also with her are Mary and Elizabeth Calder, granddaughters. Mary 24 and a semstress born in Carluke, Elizabeth 16 and born in Kirkintilloch, Dunbartonshire. Also there is Mary's grandson Coventry Brown, age 5, a scholar, born in Pencaitland, Haddingtonshire (East Lothian). (Find My Past 1861 census [3])
Mary died age 84 of "natural decay". There was no medical attendent. Her son William registered her death.
