Biography

George Lawson lived in Appalachia, in Mississippi.

George W. Lawson is recorded in the 1845 Mississippi State and Territorial Census in Tishomingo County, Mississippi. He has four males and four females in his household. Riley Myers is recorded on the next line with 4 males and 2 females.

Geo is indexed as "Dawson", but it appears to be LAWSON in Northern Division, District 4, Tishomingo County, Mississippi 1850 census. In his household are his wife, Susannah, age 52, Phoebie, age 25, born Alabama; Mary, age 23, born, Alabama; Jefferson, age 17, born, Tennessee; and George, age 14, born Indiana.

One household above Geo Lawson is the John Job (Jobe) family and on the previous page Riley Myers is recorded as Richard Mires with his family. E. Polk and wife, Clarinda, both 18, also live next door to the Lawson family.

Before 1860 George moves his family to Sevier County, Arkansas. George, Susana and Jefferson are living in household # 1087. Dwelling 1088 is George W., age 25, born Indiana with his wife, Emily and their children, America, age 1, born AR and Harriet, 6/12 born Arkansas. The next household is Sarah George, age 44, born North Carolina. Two households down Ezekiel Polk and Claranda Polk with their family. Based on the birthplaces of their children, it appears the family may have moved to Arkansas about 1857.

George moved back to Tishomingo County, Mississippi after 1860. His will is signed 19 Day of January 1862 and is recorded in Will Book, Old Tishomingo Co and Alcorn County, 1854-1921. He leaves everything to his wife, Susan and she is also appointed as his administrator.

He has a marked grave at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Kossuth, Alcorn County, Mississippi. According to his headstone he died June 24, 1863. This would have been in Tishomingo County, Now in Alcorn County as Alcorn County wasn't formed until 1870.

I know George's wife is Susanna/Susan born c1799 North Carolina. She was last known Living in Jan 1862 when George signed his will in Tishomingo County, Mississippi leaving her his estate. To date, haven't located a marriage record; death record/obit/death notice/will or probate for Susanna. I have a query at WikiTree as well as some correspondence in progress, so will not add her until I have exhausted resources to prove/document her maiden name.
