George Hunt Jr. is Notable.

George Hunt was an Olympic athlete that competed in the 1936 Summer Olympics.

George Elwood Hunt, son of George Elwood Hunt and Agnes Catherine Thornberg, was born on 1 August 1916.^[1][2][3] George's father, George Hunt, was born in Washington, and in 1920, was manager of the sales department of Emergency Fleet Corporation, and his mother, Agnus Thornberg, was born in Sweden.^[4]

In the 1930 census, his father's occupation was listed as mortician.^[5]

George graduated from Puyallup High School at age 16.^[6][7] George attended the University of Washington, graduating in 1936 with a degree in engineering.

George played tennis, and was also on the rowing crew, being part of the crew that went to the Olympics in Berlin in 1936, winning the gold medal. George was 6'5" tall in college, which earned him the nickname "Shorty".

In the 1940 census, George was living with his maternal grandparents in Seattle, and working as an engineer, on the dry docks.^[8]

George registered for the WWII draft on 16 October 1940 in Bremerton, Washington.^[9]

George married Eleanor Butler on 8 February 1941, in King County, Washington.^[10]

George served in the US Navy during WWII.^[11]

After the war, George started a construction company, working as a general contractor for mostly commercial buildings. His achievements in this field include the Burien Library, the University of Washington's Lemieux Library, and the Carmelite Monastery.

In the 1950 census George E Hunt (age 33), Supervisor, was the married head of household in Bridgeport, Douglas, Washington.^[12]

George also worked for the Port of Seattle's engineering department. George retired in 1988.

George, the son of George Hunt and Agnes Thornberg, passed away on 3 September 1999, in Issaquah, Washington, from a stroke.^{[13][14][15][16][17]}

Research Notes

There is a marriage record for George and Elizabeth for 1938, but in the 1940 census, George is listed as single. Perhaps they split and got remarried in 1941. Needs investigating.^[18]
