Communication Preferences: I am interested in communicating private message with anyone who shares the same genealogical or historical interests. My family tree is at <https://web.archive.org/web/20080204110442/http://www.hillmanc.fsnet.co.uk/index.htm>.
* There is a link here to some genealogy pages which, together with a sorely missed deceased cousin, I set up a couple of decades back. Since then at least one of my ISPs has gone belly up: I had thought these pages long since lost to posterity. The genealogy pages have resurfaced online, however, courtesy of the wonderful Internet Archive (Wayback Machine) project. Of course you should nevertheless wish, like me, to treat my genealogy pages from twenty years ago with ... caution

Biography

  • Still alive.
  • My parents were both born in England. Tacking back, I become more of a salad
  • My Grand parents were born in Santiago (Chile), Staten Island (NY, USA), London (England) and Edinburgh (Scotland)
  • My Great grand parents were born in:
* Albany (NY, USA)
* Chile (most likely Santiago)
* Connecticut (USA)
* South Carolina (USA)
* Somerset (England)
* England (Most likely Essex)
* Edinburgh (Scotland)
* Glasgow (Scotland)
* If birth location is treated (somewhat anachronisticaly) as a surrogate for what has come to be identified as nationality, that works out in terms of "vulgar fractions" at USA 3/8, Scotland 1/4, England 1/4, Chile 1/8
  • My Great great grand parents were born in
* Castle Dawson Co (London)Derry Ireland (at that time part of “United Kingdom”)
* Schechtenady/Albany NY USA
* Peekskill/Westchester NY USA
* Huasco (probably) or Santiago (possibly) Chile
* Connecticut USA
* Connecticut USA
* South Carolina USA
* South Carolina USA
* Edinburgh Scotland (at that time – and in 2023 still – part of “United Kingdom”)
* Calcutta BEIC (subsequently – till 1947 - “British India”)
* London England (at that time – and in 2023 still – part of “United Kingdom”)
* Oxfordshire England (at that time – and in 2023 still – part of “United Kingdom”)
* Aberdeen Scotland (at that time – and in 2023 still – part of “United Kingdom”)
* Banff Scotland (at that time – and in 2023 still – part of “United Kingdom”)
* Renfrewshire Scotland (at that time – and in 2023 still – part of “United Kingdom”)
* Lanarkshire Scotland (at that time – and in 2023 still – part of “United Kingdom”)
* If birth location is treated (somewhat anachronisticaly) as a surrogate for what has come to be identified as nationality, that works out in terms of "vulgar fractions" at USA 3/8, Scotland 5/16, England 1/8, Chile 1/16, Ireland 1/16, India 1/16

I intend to compile a little autobiography suitably tailored for Wikitree, but that may never happen. Unless/until I do that, here's a link to one I prepared earlier. With benefit of several years of hindsight, it looks depressingly smart-arsey. But it presumably looked ok at least to me at some point. And since I took to hiding behind a vpn, it has become rather challenging to contribute further "improvements" on wikipedia.

Death or disappearance

Stuff happens. I tend to not to set up or "project manage" too many pages for living persons, but there are some. Some of my contributions are "privacy locked". When I die, or if I simply disappear from wikitree view without explanation for more than ... a year, I hereby give permission for all privacy locked profiles for which I am the only (previously) active profile manager to be transferred to any of my family members who have been persuaded to take a sufficient interest at the time, and/or or to any of the other wonderful (or, if it comes to that, not) WikiTreers who have collaborated with me. Thank you, if you did, for seeing to it.

Hi Charles,

I don't think they are the same person. Nothing matches except the last name. My Chapman lived & died in England. Your Chapman has no birth location & died in Haifa, Palestine. They had different spouses. The birth & death dates are different but close enough. Take care, Hal

Hello Charles,

Charles, I sent you an email on this topic a week ago, did you see it? I see that this profile has https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ogilvie-1769 no place names in the vital data. Could you please add one? This guidance may be helpful:

Hi, Charles

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Hi Charles, Welcome to WikiTree.

We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.

Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: New Member How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.

Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.

Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.

I tried to reply but the thing went to a no reply standard message.

In case this one works, thank you.

Be well.
