Joseph was born in 1852. He was the son of Peter Groom and Martha Shoemaker. He passed away in 1920. He married Cordia Rachael McGuire on March 3, 1889 in Placer Co., CA. To this union twelve children were born; Alpha Katherine, Corbett, Beryl Earl, Ione, Marie, Jay, Ottis, Wiley A., Warren E., Ross Every, Luriene, and Richard Paul.
Job left home as a young man and went to CA. with his elder brother Morrison Penny Groom to escape life with his stepfather. He was named after his paternal grandfather, Job Groom.
