Emma Green was born shortly before 17 Jul 1843 in Sturmer, Essex, England to Thomas Green and Matilda Midson.[1] She was baptised on 17 Jul 1843 at St Mary's church in Sturmer.[2]

She lived with her parents in Sturmer when she was young.[3]

Her parents decided to emigrate. On 5 Jan 1855 the family boarded the ship Speedy at Southampton bound for New South Wales, Australia. They arrived on April 9.[4]

The arrival was announced in the newspaper:
ARRIVALS. April 9.---Speedy, ship, 1031 tons, Captain Nightingall, from Southampton January 5, with 414 Government emigrants.

And also:
THE SPEEDY.--- [t]his splendid clipper ship arrived yesterday from London, after a fair passage of 92 days. She left Southampton on the 5th January, with the wind west south-west, in company with the Kaffirland, also bound for Sydney: and on the 9th January saw the Lizard Point, having beaten the whole way down channel.

Emma married John Reading in the year 1861 in Maitland, New South Wales.[7] They did not have any children.

Unfortunately, her husband died in 1862.

Emma Reading married Alfred Pont on 8 Sep 1863 in Maitland.[8] Alfred was the brother of George Pont who married her sister Harriet.

They had six children:

Emma Pont died on 14 Jul 1923 in Merewether, New South Wales.[9] According to the Australian Cemeteries Index, she was buried in the Sandgate Cemetery, Sandgate, New South Wales.[10] She was 79 years old.
