I am interested in my Davis lineage. John D. Davis-born in Cumberland, VA, 1805; died- Buckingham, VA, 1860. Married Mary Jane Carter (Buckingham, VA 1811-1907 ). I have the Davis/King family Bible with photos that I would like to identify. I cannot find any additional info past John D Davis. Also, I am related to Meador, King, Watkins, Guerrant, DuToi, L'Orange, Ragland, Burks, Womack, Seamster, Ligon, Conner, & Crowder families of VA. Most of my family on both sides has VA roots (Southern Colonies). I am a member of DAR, and my aunt (who traveled many times to UK to do research-it was lost when she passed) was a member of the Huguenot Society and Valley Forge Society. I would like to trace back as far as possible. I would also like to meet relatives. Any assistance would be appreciated!

Biography

C Davis is the descendant of a Huguenot emigrant.

Template:Daniel Guerrant Template:Pierre Guerrant Template:Daniel Guerin Template:Marie L'Orange Template:Pierre DuTois

The biography for C Davis was born and grew up in Richmond, Virginia. Most all of my family roots can be traced in Virginia. I am very interested in history and genealogy.

  • I am very interested in the Huguenot migration and settlement. I live near Manikintowne (now Manakin), Virginia, and plan to use their library once it it open again (after the Covid Virus). My aunt was an active member of the Huguenot Society and I am planning to join ASAP. My Huguenot family names are Guerrant, Trabue, L'Orange, and DuTois, to name a few. I have traced them to France. I am very interest in this lineage and history. I would very much like to be a part of the project and assist in the research. (I have had difficulty trying to post this question to the proper web site area.)
  • I am very interested in the southern colonies, particularly Virginia. Most all of my ancestors on both sides are from the Colony of Virginia. I am researching colonial America/Jamestown.
  • I have found paperwork linking me to an ancestor at Valley Forge.
  • I am a member of DAR.

Hello, Mary,

I totally enjoy researching my ancestory and working on this project. Unfortunately, I have had several huge family committments that have kept me away from my computer for a while. I hope to be able to focus once again on this project and continue to do genealogy work. I am a member of several organizations such as DAR. I am planning to join several more in the near future. I have done very little research in the past 6 months, however. I am hoping to resume very soon. Thank you for being a leader and for your support and endeavors. Carolyn Davis Russ

Found this one you adopted, Carolyn, https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Marshall-6407 that is a contribution for SoCOL, and one you can work on. Also this one needs sources https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Fox-2416

Would you be able to work on these??

Hi

I sent you a check-in message a week ago about the US Southern Colonies Project to ask you about your continued involvement but have not yet heard back from you. Do you still want to be in the project? If I don’t hear from you by the same time next week I’ll assume that you’ve moved on to other things but you’re most welcome to re-join the project at any time.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Best wishes,

Thank you for replying to the US Southern Colonies June 2022 check in, Carol. I have marked you as active. I received both of your notes today. Actually the badges have been removed from people who did not want to participate or never replied..

However I went through your contributions and found two profiles which looked like Southern Colonies to me..... They are Watkins-2547 and Johns-3389. Have an active six months.

Hi Carol, Thanks for checking in. I am marking you Active. I hope your daughter stays well. There is not sufficient background on Covid for any of us to fully understand and guard against it.

I am glad you are back with your research as well as the other project. Have a good 6 months on Southern Colonies.

Hi Carol, Thank you for the check in polling. I have marked you as active. You are on the Virginia team and the Jamestown Team.

Jamestown is complicated since it sort of started 1606 and ceased by 1625 when the Virginia Company was no longer instrumental in sending people to America.. After that it became Virginia Province, then the state of Virginia.

Here is the Jamestown page. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Jamestown,_Virginia_Colony It has links to its other pages. If you ever need help in proving an ancestor of Jamestown, I am the team leader. In fact most of the Jamestown page I put together.

Hello C,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Pre-1700 ancestors can be shared by many descendants, so collaboration is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

The Virginia Project may fit your research focus. If not, use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find other possibilities. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

Have questions? Ask in the comments section of my profile.

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).
