Biography

Jerusha Pearl Herod (nee Davis) was born on May 18,1888 in Texas to John and Melvina Davis. Jerusha grew up in Limestone County, Texas with her five siblings: Nannie, Roburda, John, James and Annie.

On October 20, 1901, Jerusha married ^[1]John J Herod in Limestone County, Texas. Their marriage was tumultous but they did have eight children: Susie, Irene, RV, Tola Pauline, Jay, Mell Dean, Doris (aka Bunk) and Uriah (aka Chief/Babe). Jerusha lived in Limestone County her entire life. She was admitted to the Terrell State Hospital in Kaufman, Texas. She died on April 25, 1962.^[2]

Research Notes

There is no proof that Jerusha and her husband ever divorced. There is proof that he often left the home but there is no evidence that they divorced, particularly the idea that she said she was widowed to avoid saying she was divorced.
