The Profile Improvement Project (PIP) is performing its first annual check-in with our project members. Please review the following and let us know if you are content where we have placed you or would like to be more involved.

We are in the process of transitioning to a team structure. There will be three participant PIP Teams to start -- The Maintenance Category Team, the Unknowns Team, and the Biography Team. There is also the Voyage Team who guide new Voyagers. See the Profile Improvement Project Teams for a brief outline of each team. You're currently identified as a member of the Biography Team Level 1, working on profiles from your own watchlist and whatever else you find. I belong to a Daniel(s) group project at FTDNA. One member of the group has the same DNA Haplogroup as in your William Daniels born 1815. They have traced the linage back to Roger Daniel b. 1520 d. 1570 United Kingdom. Might be worth it to join the project.

Hello Laura, Thank you for your comment and info on the FTDNA Daniel Project. I do belong and it is my paternal half brother's Y-DNA shown on the project as tracing to Roger Daniel. My paternal half brother and I have an Autosomal DNA match. The main thing we can't resolve is the proper paper trail to say for sure Roger Daniel is our ancestor because it appears our Y-DNA matches the O' Driscoll Clan of County Cork Ireland. So who can say what was going on?

Oh, my brother is in the group with John Daniel(s) that was an early arrival to Connecticut around mid 1630's. We were just contacted by another group that share the same DNA as my brother, yet there name is Hoolihan and variants of that name. They can trace back to County Cork, Ireland. Seems there were a lot of name changes and changes to the DNA as some of them are 2 steps and some are 5 steps from my brother.

In that area in 1810 (Patapsco Upper Hundred, Baltimore, Maryland ) there is a Uriah Wilson with a large family. Is this by any chance part of your gang? Thanks. Jane. Hi Jane, good to hear from another Wilson researcher and also your interest in the multiple Uriahs. I honestly don't know if the Maryland Uriah connects to mine. I do know mine had been in Kentucky since around 1790 while yours were still in MD 1810. It would seem the given name Uriah is sufficiently rare and for it to show up so many times among assorted Wilson family's seems unusual. There are Uriah Wilson's found in Canada and New England. Was there an original patriarch so well loved the name echoed down through the years? Certainly something to ponder. DNA is our only hope for a solution to this puzzle. I have tried to make sense of a Nathaniel Wilson who came from Maryland and was living in Kentucky at Maysville and also connected to Bourbon and Fayette Counties. One if my Uriah's had a son Nathaniel. And so it goes round and round. Will we ever get off of this merry-go-round? Would love to swap research with you or sit down and brainstorm. Cheers, Connie

It was DNA that backed up my long-held assumption that Michael Wilson https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Wilson-82748 and Henry Wilson https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Wilson-45333 were brothers (I match with descendants of Henry). They appear as from nowhere in the 1840 and 1850 census (before that they would have been covered by their father I guess). Since Henry was born in Maryland in 1807 and Michael was born in Maryland in 1812 it stands to reason their father is one of the Wilsons in Maryland in the 1810 census. I was curious about Uriah because he was in the right area. But he isn't there in 1800, could he be the one in Delaware? Mill Creek Hundred, New Castle, Delaware. In 1820 he's probably either the one in Kentucky (but that's yours) or Columbia Ohio. I've noticed a lot of people in Maryland were just passing through on their way to the west. Mind you I'm not saying Uriah was the father of my Henry and Michael. Just curious that a guy with such a large family passed through and disappeared from the area. I've been poking around behind door #3 (New York Uriah) and am drawn to his first family. My two (Henry and Michael) would have been the youngest of that first batch, but are not mentioned in the will. They always seemed like strays - no family ever showed up. Michael b 1812 could even have been the death of his mother, the first wife. If Uriah went off to Ohio and left all the first batch behind... just a thought. Sadly Michael only ever had daughters so no hints from sons' names. Henry had Joseph, Abraham, Ephraim, and William. If they got ditched by the father and the stepmother they probably would not have cared to carry on his name. I dunno. 40 years, no progress.

Meadows name caught my eye as many are residing in Cumberland County, Virginia. Greenbrier is, i think, in West Virginia and marriages of Meadows may often have occured in West Virginia, rather than Va. Also, i recall that after the Revolutionary War, many families were rewarded with land in West Va. so Meadows older siblings may have married in Va. rather than moving . Hope this helps.

Connie, below is a link to the map. There are 4 views of the same map. BUT, it was drawn in 1976--not 1776 (which it is supposed to depict). I had a vague memory that it is not an authentic map but a replica. Nevertheless, it does mark locations for gun-makers/sellers, forges, waterways, and churches. At the very least, it stimulated my thinking.

What I'd really like to see is Lancaster County--that part that was Heidelberg-town (Myerstown today) and later partitioned into Lebanon and Marion counties. That's where the militarily-inclined Copenhavers and gun-hawking Schells would have interacted to produce and deploy some of the finest long-rifles of that era.

Hi Connie,

I agree it would be interesting to connect the sharp-shooting riflemen in the Revolution (Koppenhaver and his fellow soldiers)with the craftsmen gun-makers and the locations of forges. I reckon that to have the best shooters you need 3 things: a forge, guys who know how to craft the finest rifles, and guys who can shoot. Have you ever seen the map of Tulpehocken region from 1776? It shows militarily-relevant things such as forges on the map. Somebody has written guns right on the map. I dont know the original source for this map.
