John Clutterbuck was born in Rodbrough, Gloucestershire, England.

John was baptised on 17 Nov 1766, in The Old Meeting House Independent, Stroud, Gloucestershire, England, son of Richard Clutterbuck and Hannah (Antill) Clutterbuck. ^[1][2]. John's baptism record shows his grandparents, Nathaniel and Amathena Clutterbuck and Thomas and Hannah Antell.

John Clutterbuck married Sarah Dowman, daughter of William Dowman, on 21 August 1791 in Stroud^[3] They had children in Stroud, Gloucestershire from 1794 to 1815.
