In the 1861 census, John (age 36) was the married head of household in Packenham, Lanark, Canada West.[2]
In the 1871 census, John (age 47), Farmer, was recorded as married in Pakenham, Lanark North, Ontario.[3]
John died on 5 June 1887 and was buried in Saint Johns Anglican Cemetery, South March, Ottawa Municipality, Ontario, Canada.[4]

Sons James, David, and John appear to have emigrated to Canada by the mid-1830s, since brother James had a son born in Ontario in 1838. James and Ann and some of their their remaining children appear to have emigrated to Canada by the mid-1840s. Margarette gave her date of immigration as 1845 on the 1901 census.[5]
