Raymond Brown was an American right-handed pitcher in Negro league baseball, almost exclusively for the Homestead Grays.[1]
Raymond Brown was born on February 23rd, 1908 in Alger, Ohio. He was the son of Edgar and Martha Evans Brown. [2] He grew up in Hardin County, Ohio.[3][4]
Raymond played professional baseball in the Negro Leagues and played for the Homestead Grays for most of his career. He was a pitcher, best known for his curveball. He was a star player and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006.[5]
Raymond married [[Posey-4395|Ethel Angeline Posey] on June 5th, 1937 in Homestead, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Cumberland Posey, owner of the Homestead Grays.[6] They had a son, Truman. They lived in Homestead in 1940 and 1950. In 1940, they were living with Ethel's family.[7][8] Raymond and Ethel later divorced.[9]
Around 1955, Raymond moved to Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio where he lived for the rest of his life. He worked for the Sunshine Biscuit Co. there.[10]
Raymond died on February 8th, 1965 in Dayton, Ohio.[9][10] He was buried in New Greencastle Cemetery in Dayton.[11]
