George Frederick BROOM was born on 17 October 1904 in Chepstow, Monmouthshire, Wales, United Kingdom[1]. His parents were Samuel George BROOM and Edith Ellen MASON.

1911, 6 year old, George Frederick BROOM was living in Chepstow, Gloucestershire, England with his parents Samuel (age 38, Kitchen Gardener) and Edith (36); siblings, Florence (14, General Servant), Ivy (12), Percy (10), Dorris (8), William (4), Gertrude (3) and Olive (2); grandmother, Mary (56) and uncle, William (21, Kitchen Gardener)[2]

The streamer, Paparoa set sail from London, England on 19 September 1911 with the BROOM family among the passengers and arrived in Pinkenba, Queensland, Australia on 8 November 1911. The BROOM family consisted of parents, Samuel and Edith and their children, Florence, Ivy, Percy, Dorris, George, William, Gertrude and Olive[3]

8 January 1942, George enlisted in the Australian Army; Service Number: QX18949[4][5]. He was assigned to the 62nd Infantry Battalion, attained the rank of Sergeant and was discharged on 26 February 1945

He passed away on 29 November 1984 in Queensland, Australia[6]
